The first three of our longboats have been launched and are being put to good use training our younkers in the arts of boat pulling and seamanship under oars. Phase two will teach our members something of the arts of sparmaking, rigging and sailmaking. The three completed boats will each carry a different rig thereby giving their crews a wide range of sailing experience. The photo shows 'Starfish' leading 'Orca' home to the pontoon. |

The Longboat Kraken and the team from Mission Australia The Longboat Kraken - stage 2 |
Following the successful completion of the longboat ‘Starfish’, Mission Australia built another four purpose designed and built vessels for the Sea Rover Association. Each longboat carries a different rig with the intention of providing members with experience in using a wider range than is normally available. This concept will make Sea Rovers the only true ‘Sail Training’ organisation in Queensland. The photos show the progress of the longboat ‘Kraken’ during her construction. |
